Why Does API Include Pretest Questions?
API continuously updates and improves its examination question bank.
Before a new question can be used as a scored examination question, it is first included as an unscored pretest question. This allows API to evaluate whether the question is:
- Technically accurate
- Clearly written and unambiguous
- Fair and appropriate for the examination
- Answered correctly by a reasonable proportion of qualified candidates
Only after this evaluation process are successful questions added to the scored question bank for future examinations.
Non-Core API Certifications
For non-core API certifications, the number of questions varies depending on the certification. Most examinations contain approximately 100 to 115 multiple-choice questions.
The exact number of questions, examination duration, and examination format are published by API for each certification.
