How Do I Select My API Prometric Test Centre and Examination Date?
API certification examinations are administered through Prometric, which operates approximately 600 testing centres worldwide.
Once you receive your API Examination Authorization Notice, you can log in to the Prometric scheduling system and select your preferred:
- Test centre
- Examination date
- Available appointment time (where applicable)
Book Your Exam Early
Prometric appointments are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. As a result, neither API nor Prometric can guarantee availability at your preferred location or date.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that you schedule your examination as soon as you receive your API Examination Authorization Notice. Early booking gives you the best opportunity to secure your preferred test centre and appointment.
If your preferred location is fully booked, consider:
- Selecting another available date within your examination window.
- Booking at a nearby Prometric test centre.
- Choosing an alternative location if necessary.
Can I Change My selected examination date Appointment?
If your plans change, you may reschedule your examination within your allocated three-week examination window, subject to API and Prometric policies and appointment availability.
Typically:
- Prometric, API’s exam administration vendor, charges a fee (payable directly to them) when an exam appointment is rescheduled or cancelled on their website for the following scenarios:
- $35 fee if within 30 – 60 calendar days before scheduled exam appointment
- $70 fee if between 5 – 29 calendar days before scheduled exam appointment
- You may not reschedule or cancel an exam less than five (5) days before a current exam appointment.
- You may not change an exam to a new testing window after your exam is scheduled with Prometric. You will need to submit another application, and additional fees will apply.
A Note About Core API Examinations
Core API examinations, such as API 510, API 570, and API 653, are typically full-day examinations. Because of their duration and high demand, appointment availability can be limited, making it more difficult to change your test centre or examination date after booking.
To avoid unnecessary stress and additional fees, schedule your examination early and choose a date and location that you are confident you will be able to attend.
