How Many Questions Are There in an API Examination?
The number of examination questions and the time allowed vary depending on the API certification.
Core API Certifications
For the core inspector certifications—API 510, API 570, API 653, and API 1169—the examination typically consists of:
- 170 multiple-choice questions
- 140 scored questions
- 30 unscored pretest (experimental) questions
The pretest questions do not contribute to your final score, regardless of whether you answer them correctly or incorrectly.
However, API does not identify which questions are pretest questions, so you should treat every question as if it were scored and answer all of them to the best of your ability.
